Being blessed with the gift of Bounce, betimes the Booty Band boys break off and bestow some beats with various other bands. Besides the occasional sit-ins, here are some of the side projects we’ve got going on from time to time:

The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown

The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown

The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown is a loose collaborative group founded by members of Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band and various friends they’ve encountered at festivals and shows. At various times, the jam-based group has included members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, P-Funk Allstars, Sci-Fi, Laura Reed & Deep Pocket, The Afromotive, Galactic, the Lee Boys and many others.

The Asheville Horns

The Asheville Horns

The Asheville Horns are a studio session and live horn section for hire. They will gladly accompany your studio recording or live show, pushing it through to next level of solid sound. The Horns have recorded with Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, George Clinton, the Dirty Dozen Horns, Garry Shider, members of Galactic, Sidney Barnes, Belita Woods, Terrence Higgins, Donna the Buffalo, members of the Lee Boys, Ian Neville, Menage, Laura Reed & Deep Pocket, and Fisher Meehan. Asheville Horns have appeared onstage stage with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Galactic, Karl Denson, Umphrey’s McGee, The Lee Boys, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, Perpetual Groove, the Booty Band, Woody Wood, the Blue Rags, Cadillac Jones, members of P-Funk, and members of the Wailers.

When schedules permit, the Booty Band horn section is pimped out to honk along with Laura Reed and Deep Pocket. The roots of their sound and message stem from Laura’s diverse experience of growing up in South Africa and the American South. Formed in the summer of 2006, the band switches up the music between funk, progressive R&B, and pure SOUL behind Laura Reed’s captivating stage presence.

Former Booty Band singer and songwriter Josh Phillips is forging his own path through musicland, and is occasionally rejoined by Greg and Derrick when things need to get really horny. Josh Phillips Folk Festival have been gaining a veritable army of fans that range from the youngest musical listeners, to seasoned long time traditional music fans. with the release of their first studio album, wicker, phillips has truly provided a strong testament to his ability to effortlessly capture generations worth of musical evolution, and traverse years of cultural dilution, bringing the listener back to the very source of roots, folk, soul, r & b, rock and reggae.
