Asheville Horns sit in with Dirty Dozen at Red Rocks!!!

While on our trip out west, the Band had the opportunity to go out to see the “Mardi Gras On The Mountainside” event at Red Rocks, featuring Dr. John, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk. After exchanging a rather unique handshake with Dr. John, Greg Hollowell and other founding member of The Asheville Horns, Derrick Johnson hit the stage to play Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon” with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. They did their Booty Band thing, got the crowd on their feet and cheering in the middle of the song. For some, that was a first time entering that historic venue. A great night! The band camped out in Steamboat Spring the next night, saw the Dirty Dozen and then proceeded to play in Steamboat the next night. Crossing paths with great musicians is one of the benefits of traveling across this great globe!

Nice John! That was a really fun night. I got to meet Dr. John backstage – briefly. He doesn’t let people shake his hand; kind of hits your hand like a keyboard. Very slick.
